What is JPJ Malaysia's Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP)?

The Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) is issued by Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ / Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan) under Section 66H of the Road Transport Act 1987. Each VEP lasts for 5 years and allows entry of foreign vehicle into Peninsular Malaysia.

From 1 October 2024, it is mandatory for all vehicles, including private vehicles, commercial vehicles, government or embassy vehicles, motorcyles, to apply for VEP before entering Malaysia. VEP application is only available online at the moment via the JPJ portal.

What are the fees for Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) and Road Charge (RC)?

Each Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) costs RM10 and is valid for 5 years. The VEP is mandatory for all foreign vehicles and cannot be transferred to another vehicle or person.

Additionally, a Road Charge (RC) of RM20 is payable for all private vehicles (excluding motorcycles, commercial vehicles, government vehicles or embassy vehicles) each time they enter Malaysia.

How to apply for Vehicle Entry Permit?

To apply for a Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP), you need to follow these processes: create a Touch ‘n Go account, sign up for a VEP account profile, register your vehicle, collect the RFID tag, and attach the tag to your car.

For detailed instructions, follow the step-by-step guide below.

  • Open a Touch N’ Go account with a linked payment method
  • Go to https://vep.jpj.gov.my/ and sign up for a profile with your full name, email address, and password.
  • You will receive a confirmation email once it is done successfully.
  • Go to https://vepams.jpj.gov.my/ and sign in with the same email and password. Complete the VEP application process. You will require the following documents:
    • NRIC
    • Certificate of Entitlement (COE)
    • Car Insurance
    • Letter of Authorisation (if the car does not belong to you)
  • You will receive an email notification once it is approved to choose your collection method.
  • Go to https://vepams.jpj.gov.my/ and sign in with the same email and password. You can choose to:
    • Collect your VEP RFID tag from the collection centre at TCSENS VCC at Danga Bay [Map]. Show the above email notification when asked at the JB custom.
    • Have it delivered to your preferred address for a fee.
  • Once your have collected or received your VEP RFID tag, you will need to acknowledge it. Go to https://vepams.jpj.gov.my/ and sign in with the same email and password. Key in your RFID tag’s Serial Number for validation.
  • Fit the VEP RFID tag to the left headlamp of your car by following the steps below.
  • Once fitted, take a photo with the RFID tag and your car plate number in one frame.
  • Go to https://vepams.jpj.gov.my/ and sign in with the same email and password. Upload the photo.
  • You will receive an email notification once the tag is activated and you can now safely roam in Malaysia! You can choose MyRFID designated lanes on all Malaysian highways if you wish to and pay your Road Charge and toll fees with the Touch N’ Go eWallet linked to your account.

  • Clean the surface of the area near the left headlamp (passenger side) to fit the RFID tag and let it dry for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Gently peel off the tag from edges
  • Stick horizontally to the left headlamp 5cm away from the metal frame. Do not fit on the curvature of the headlamp.

How to pay for Road Charge?

You can now use the MyRFID lane to drive through seamlessly. The Road Charge fee will be automatically deducted from your Touch ‘n Go e-wallet.

Similarly, you can select MyRFID designated lanes on Malaysian highways to pay your toll fees using your Touch ‘n Go e-wallet.
