Canada’s economic growth picked up at the start of the year. Real gross domestic product (GDP) rose at an annualized rate of 1.7 per cent in the first quarter, Statistics Canada | Statistique Canada said in a report.The GDP report was the last major economic release before the Bank of Canada’s policy announcement on June 5, one of the most anticipated decisions in recent memory. Loblaw is testing smaller-format discount stores as shoppers increasingly look for ways to save on their grocery bill, with the first opening in downtown Toronto. This move comes as shoppers have been increasingly gravitating toward discount stores and private-label brands to try and mitigate the effects of food inflation.
